Reimagining therapy from the margins

We are hedgerow therapy collective

A group of therapists working in private practice who believe that the mental health sector in its current form isn't serving the needs of clients or practitioners.

We want to see that change.

What do we do?

We specialise in working therapeutically with marginalised and alternative communities.

We offer a small number of low-cost long-term therapy spaces for clients on low incomes from marginalised backgrounds who would struggle to find the kind of therapy they need elsewhere.

We provide distinctive events and trainings drawing on our shared expertise and lived experience.

OUR mission

what we see

Too much unpaid work. The amount of unpaid work expected of both qualified and trainee therapists  limits the number and diversity of therapists able to enter and sustainably continue in the profession.

Too little low-cost therapy available. Low-cost high-quality, long-term therapy with experienced practitioners is extremely rare.

Too much one-size-fits all therapy. Clients from more marginal communities are often poorly understood by therapists who aren't well-versed in their experiences. If they are looking for low cost therapy they very rarely have the option to choose a practitioner experienced with or specialising in their needs, or offering a modality they think would work for them.

What we want to see

Therapists being paid for their work and able to make a sustainable living doing the work they trained to do.

High quality low cost therapy that meets the needs of clients, including those from marginalised backgrounds or communities.

What we are doing

Offering a limited number of low-cost long-term therapy spaces for clients  from marginalised backgrounds and communities who would struggle to access the kind of support they need via mainstream  services.

Operating with an emphasis on high-quality tailored care and containment, rather than scale.

Developing a funding model that is not reliant  on asking therapists to work for free.

Providing continuing professional development training focused on the experiences and needs of under-served, marginalised, misunderstood, and stigmatised communities - by therapists with extensive relevant clinical and lived experience.

Why hedgerows?

Hedgerows represent a coming together of diverse co-sustaining life. They are living resources in the landscape -  sites of growth, sustenance and lush interdependence. They are a reminder of the vitality that exists on the margins.
